Wreck Diving - Wrecks of the Red Sea

The Red Sea has been an important international waterway since time immemorial. The first record of a trading expedition in the Red Sea dates back to year 1493 BC, when Queen Hatchepsut of Egypt sent a fleet of five vessels from El Quseir, on the Red Sea mainland coast, to the Land of Punt, near present-day Somalia. more...

However, the Red Sea has always been difficult to navigate due to the frequent fierce storms, strong winds, dangerous currents and countless reefs and submerged islands all along the shipping routes. In addition to this, war has taken its toll too, when it comes to ships sailing its beautiful, crystalline but deceptive waters. It is of no surprise that now many wrecks are scattered at its bottom.

The extensive and highly specialised services now offered by scuba diving operators all along the Red Sea make it possible for the keen scuba diver to visit most of them whether on daily boats or via liveaboards. Not all of the Red Sea wrecks are suitable for the average sports diver, and some are restricted to those with advanced technical training. Some of the most famous ones are though easily reachable, but all can be dived only following the safety regulations in place in the region.

Here is a list of the wrecks that the Egyptian Red Sea offers to scuba divers:
