Destination Soma Bay - Windsurfing in Soma Bay

This beautiful and secluded bay is situated just 10 minutes north of Safaga and has some small, offshore islands that protect the bay from big waves.

And indeed, flat water, small to medium sized waves and shallow areas offering something for every level of ability.

With low tide, the huge offshore sandbank flattens the water surface and becomes a speed piste while the high tide enlarges the standing area close to the beach, providing perfect beginner conditions.

Further out, you find chop hops and smaller waves up to 1 ½ metres with ideal conditions for perfecting your power-gybe or freestyle moves.

There is wind throughout the year, with some of the best in the summer, usually sideshore to side-offshore. However, as Soma Bay also enjoys at least 1 Bft more than Hurghada further up the coast, it is a popular spot all year round.

In the summer months, from May to October, the average wind is around 22 knots or 6 Bft with the afternoons sometimes getting even stronger winds, especially in September.
