Announcement #10 of 2024

30 March 2024

Dear CDWS members,
We would like to remind you of the Ministry of Environment’s – Red Sea Governorate- instructions on sighting and dealing with sharks and the contact numbers in case of environmental emergencies:
Also, we remind our members to ensure the following precautions are applied:
•         All guides and technical managers should review the shark awareness course guidelines: https://www.cdws.travel/courses/sharkawarness
•         Please refrain from snorkeling or doing water sports activities in the area as it is strictly forbidden.
•         All guides should conduct a proper safety briefing before entering the water.
•         Ensure sufficient first aid material on board, a full oxygen tank with its correct appendage, and a tourniquet.
•         Divers should be briefed on how to correctly behave, position themselves, and stay calm during a shark encounter.
•         Do not feed fish while conducting any marine activity.
•         Do not fish while on a boat as this can attract sharks to hang around the boat.
•         Do not allow the boat crew to throw food from the boat as this attracts sharks towards the boats for feeding.
•         Ensure lights on the hotel's jetties are closed at nighttime.
For any unusual shark, behavior noticed at the surface or near the coastline please report directly to office@cdws.travel
Regards,
The Chamber of Diving and Water Sports
