Urgent announcement for CDWS members in Sharm El Sheikh.

  • All snorkeling activities are suspended in all Sharm El Sheikh sites without exception
  • All daily diving trips are suspended in all Sharm El Sheikh sites including Shaab Ali and the wreck of the Thistlegorm.
  • No Safari boats will be allowed to depart tomorrow; however, for safari boats that are already out they may dive in the areas of Shaab Mahmoud and further north.
  • Glass bottom boats and semi-subs are allowed to operate.
  • Swimmers will be allowed only in closed lagoons (the hidden bay in Ras Mohammed, Nabq Park lagoon and designated beaches in front of some Nabq)Hotels will be advised by the Hotels Chamber.
  • The National Park will be surveying the area from the Near Garden to Ras Nasrani
  • The CDWS teams of volunteers will be diving in the areas from Naama Bay to Ras Mohammed to conduct a survey and take photographs and footage and to gather as much information as possible.
  • CDWS invited Dr. George H. Burgess, director of Florida Program for Shark Research and the curator of the international shark attack file (Florida Museum of National History). Dr Burgess will arrive from the USA tomorrow evening.
  • Additional shark experts have been contacted to form a strong team to advise on the best solution on how to handle this situation.
  • CDWS will send an updated announcement concerning activities allowed on Tuesday 7 December tomorrow by 2pm.

Please note: CDWS earlier this afternoon endeavoured to contact as many dive centres and operators in Sharm el Sheikh as possible, by email and by phone, to notify members of the suspension of diving and water sport activity tomorrow.
